Reduce Image File Size for the Web
Smaller images load faster and are easier to upload. The practical goal is not the smallest possible file, but a good balance between dimensions, clarity, and size.
Use the right dimensions
Resize an image close to the dimensions where it will be displayed before compression. Oversized pixels add weight without visible benefit.
Compare at normal viewing size
Review the result at the size users will actually see. Small artifacts may be acceptable for thumbnails but not for product or portfolio images.
Keep the original
Archive the source image separately so future formats and layouts can be generated without compounding compression loss.
